Joint call to Ministers representing One Health sectors on the inclusion of parliamentarians in national delegations for the 5th HLMM on AMR
Overview
In the run up to the 5th High-Level Ministerial Meeting on AMR hosted by the Government of Nigeria in Abuja on 28-30 June 2026, a coalition of Members of the AMR Multi-Stakeholder Partnership Platform, including One Health Society, Commonwealth Parliamentary Association, UNITE, Ducit Blue Foundation, Ecumenical Pharmaceutical Network, British Society for Antimicrobial Chemotherapy, Global Parliament vs AMR, DRASA Health Trust, React Africa, has developed a call to Ministers representing One Health sectors (human health, agrifood, animal and plant health, and the environment) urging them to include parliamentarians in their national delegations to the High-Level Meeting.
The call makes the case for parliamentary engagement as essential to support the translation of the global AMR commitments into national legislative action, mobilization of domestic financing, and stronger accountability to monitor and report on progress. It calls on national delegations to seize the Abuja meeting as a moment to strengthen the link between the ministries and national parliaments in the fight against AMR in the spirit of the whole-of-society approach.
