The AMR Partnership Platform continues to advance its mission by fostering dynamic collaboration across sectors and regions, leveraging the power of collective action to accelerate progress to mitigate antimicrobial resistance (AMR) by applying a One Health approach. Recent discussions in the 7th Steering Committee meeting have charted a clear path forward on multiple fronts, from reinforcing Action Groups to preparing for key global events.

Energizing Action Groups for greater impact

The Steering Committee reaffirmed its commitment to the 13 Action Groups launched at the Platform’s inception, recognizing these as vital engines of stakeholder engagement, collective action and innovation. Lessons learned highlight that successful groups combine strong leadership, clear and realistic workplans, strategic alignment with global frameworks such as the GAP and UNGA Political Declaration, and a collaborative approach that harnesses diverse expertise across the One Health continuum.

Preparing for the 3rd Plenary Assembly

Proposed to take place virtually on 16 December 2025, the third Plenary Assembly will offer a vital platform to review the progress of Action Groups and Clusters, discuss ongoing global processes such as the IPEA and the GAP update, and prepare for the forthcoming Ministerial Conference in Nigeria. The fourth Plenary Assembly is planned to convene in person alongside the Ministerial Conference in June 2026 to directly inform ministerial deliberations. The programme for the third Assembly will be carefully designed to deliver clear value to members by fostering strategic dialogue, actionable outcomes, and laying the groundwork for effective engagement at the fourth Plenary Assembly in Nigeria.

Advancing the IPEA and GAP consultations

In support of the process for the establishment of an Independent Panel on Evidence for Action Against AMR (IPEA) and the update of the Global Action Plan (GAP), the Platform is facilitating and hosting, om behalf of the Quadripartite, multi-stakeholder consultations for both processes. These virtual consultations, planned for early September 2025, will be open for a wide range of stakeholders from all relevant One Health areas, disciplines and regions to encourage broad and inclusive participation.

Supporting the Nigeria Ministerial Conference on AMR (June 2026)

As Nigeria prepares to host the 5th Ministerial Conference on Antimicrobial Resistance in June 2026, the Platform can play an important role in supporting a robust multisectoral participation. Through hosting consultations, early agenda feedback, and communications and stakeholder outreach, the Platform will help amplify the event’s impact.
