Xavier Canavilhas

Biography

Xavier Canavilhas works at the intersection of animal health and digital innovation, with a particular focus on antimicrobial resistance (AMR). His master’s thesis developed the electronic veterinary prescription project and veterinary medicinal products repository that underpins Portugal’s AMR surveillance in animals and enable data reporting at the European level. Alongside this work, he has been actively engaged in youth leadership at both national and international levels, contributing to student federations, global veterinary organisations, and founding associations that give young professionals a stronger voice. Most notably, he co-founded the Platform of Young Health Professionals in Portugal, which brings together diverse health disciplines in a collaborative forum that develops policy and advocates to strengthen One Health collaboration and build more resilient public health systems.
