The FAO Conference side event - high-level dialogue on AMR is co-organized by the Governments of Kenya and the United Kingdom (co-chairs of the Group of Friends of AMR), FAO, the AMR Multi-Stakeholder Partnership Platform and the South Centre. The event will take place at FAO Headquarters in Rome, with both in-person and virtual participation options.
Under the theme "Industry Accountability and Equity in Agrifood Sector Transformation", the event will provide an opportunity for dialogue on: (i) the urgent need to transform how antimicrobials are used in agrifood systems; (ii) government leadership in developing and implementing national policy frameworks that are adapted to national contexts, priorities, and needs to address AMR; and (iii) the role of industry in antimicrobial use, including measures to incentivize responsible practices in the agrifood sector.
Participants will discuss practical ways in which the FAO resolution on AMR, with anticipation that it will be adopted at the Conference, can structure action and help accelerate the implementation of commitments outlined in the UNGA Political Declaration with specific reference to the agrifood sector.
Interpretation will be provided in the six official languages of FAO.
