Professor Jaap Wagenaar - Professor at the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine at Utrecht

He was trained as a veterinarian. He has held leading positions in the development and implementation of One Health-based AMR surveillance and the development of protocols for integrated surveillance. He is the director of the WHO-CC for Campylobacter and AMR from a One Health Perspective and the WOAH Reference Laboratory for Campylobacteriosis. He is a member of the Technical Advisory Group of the Fleming Fund. He is frequently acting as an expert for WHO, FAO and WOAH in the field of AMR and food safety. He was a member of the WHO-Global Foodborne Infections Network and AGISAR. He has previously worked with WHO, CDC (USA) and the USDA Western Regional Research Center. As a member of the scientific panel of the Netherlands Veterinary Medicines Institute (SDa) he has been involved in the major reduction of antimicrobial use in livestock in the Netherlands. He has studied and published extensively on the molecular epidemiology of AMR, the relation between AMU and AMR, and antimicrobial stewardship in animal production. He works on antimicrobial resistance/use, food safety issues, and capacity advisory activities in LMICs.
