Professor Amy Pruden – Environmental Scientist, Professor Department of Civil & Environmental

Engineering, Virginia Tech, USA

She is engaged in key national and international initiatives and research focused on developing methodology for the surveillance of antimicrobial resistance in the environment, especially wastewater, recycled water, and surface water. She has provided technical and strategic advice in the development of the Environmental Dimensions of Antimicrobial Resistance report (UNEP). She is a key member of and is engaged with national science and policy bodies tasked with developing and implementing One Health-based public health policies (NASEM, National Academy of Science). She researches and publishes on integrated surveillance of AMR in the environment (both agricultural and urban wastewater sources of antibiotic resistance) to inform policy and practice, with stakeholder engagement as a critical dimension.
