Biography

Prof David Graham - Professor of Ecosystems Engineering, School of Engineering, Newcastle

He has led AMR surveillance and related projects globally. He has engaged with the Quadripartite as co-lead author of the Quadripartite report on Environmental dimensions of AMR and an author of the FAO/WHO/OIE report on WASH and AMR, and recently, as an expert on the One Health Priority Research Agenda. He co-initiated PANACEA, which is developing AMR surveillance capacity for Latin America with PAHO. He is a co-author of the World Economic Forum report on the economics of waterborne AMR. Domestically, he was a member of the Strategic Advisory Group for Emergencies sub-group on COVID-19 Transmission in the Wider Environment and the Expert Advisory Group who operationalized the UK wastewater surveillance network during the Covid-19 pandemic. He now advises PATH-SAFE that is developing national surveillance capacity for foodborne human pathogens and AMR in UK agri-food systems. He is a Chartered Professional Engineer, which allows excellent cross-sectional perspective in the use of microbiology, genetics, and genomics to integrate solutions, from physical operations to data interpretation. His research and publications focus on AMR, water security, and sustainable development.
